St Matthias Church, Malvern Link

Malvern Link, or The Link was originally part of the ancient parish of Leigh. It was a small settlement until its growth at the beginning of the 19th Century. A small church was built in 1844 on land given by Lord Somers of Madresfield Court and was consecrated two years later. However a second, larger and better built church was laid down in 1880 and opened the following year.

The parish contained many businesses at the time of the First World War, including the Morgan Motor Works, which still produces cars today.

The Memorial

The names of the war dead are carved on a fine oak screen, at the west end of the church. It was erected in 1946 to mark the centenary of the consecration of the church, and this probably accounts for the number of errors in the names of the men commemorated.
