Mrs A Jeynes of Mill Cottage, Castlemorton has received a letter from an officer stating that her husband Pte A Jeynes was killed by a bullet while his platoon was reinforcing the front line. He adds: “Your husband did excellent work and was in every way a good soldier. We shall all miss him. His death was a noble sacrifice, and I say this in earnestness, because had your husband not been just where he was the bullet must inevitably hit me. He saved my life by giving his. My sympathy is very sincere and my regret is very deep.”
