Biography
James Baskett was born in 1921, the son of George and Emma Baskett. He was christened at St Martins-in-the-Cornmarket, Worcester on 8th July 1921. The family at this time was living at 2 Sutton Place, New Street, Worcester; his father was recorded as a soldier.
On the 1939 Register, George and Emma Baskett were living at 31 Church Road, Malvern Link; George was working as a postman.
The 2nd The Gordon Highlanders were captured after the Japanese took Singapore in February 1942.
James died of cholera at Nam Chon Yai Camp whilst a prisoner of the Japanese on the Thailand-Burma railway the following July. He was buried in Nam Chon Yai Cemetery and later moved to Kanchanaburi War Cemetery
