Leonard Porter was born in ca. 1895 at West Hope, near Canon Pyon, Herefordshire.  In the 1911 Census he is shown living with his parents at 2 Highway Cottages, Pipe-cum-Lyde, Herefordshire. His occupation was given as farm labourer.

On the outbreak of war he enlisted in the Herefordshire Regiment at Hereford; subsequently the Hereford Journal of 27th March 1915 gave his home address at the time of his enlistment as Elm Cottage, Upper Welland, Malvern. 

In addition to his commemoration at Malvern Wells, Leonard Porter is also remembered on the memorials inside and outside Holy Trinity Church, Hereford.
