Early years
John Dyde was born in Abbots Morton in 1886, the son of Samuel and Fanny Dyde. He was christened at St Peter’s Church, Abbots Morton on 6th January 1887. His father died before John’s fifth birthday.
In March 1901, the census enumerator found John at Quarry Pits Farm, Dormston, labouring for the Collins family.
He married Louisa Jane ? in 1909. He was working as a carter for an oil company. The couple set up home at Oakwood, Hampden Road, Malvern Link.
First World War
John Dyde enlisted in the Worcestershire Yeomanry at Worcester on 5th September 1914. He embared with the Yeomanry from Avonmouth Docks on 10th April 1915.
He was evacuated from Egypt and landed in UK on 10th September 1915. He was treated at the 2nd Southern General Hospital, Southmead, Bristol for 13 days, before transfer to other hospitals for recovery
Received a gun shot wound to the thigh on 28th August 1915 at Gallipoli. He was discharged to an army pension on 10/4/1916.
He was buried in St Matthias Churchyard on 25th April 1921.
