The Malvern News reported: “Pte Harold George Stiles, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, the son of Mr and Mrs E Stiles of 9 Eaton Road, Sparkbrook, formerly residing at Albany Cottage, West Malvern, has been killed in action a fortnight after going to France. He was 19, and before joining up he worked for BSA.”

Harold Stiles was killed during the German Spring Offensive at the Battle of Hazebrouck when the two Warwickshire battalions of the 182nd Brigade along with the 51st (Highland) Division fought in vain to check the enemy advance.
