Malvern Commemoration: Malvern Library

Nature of Death: Died at Sandwich, Kent 6/10/1922

Next of Kin: Son of Walter and Sarah Whiting of Malvern Common

George Whiting was born in Malvern in 1879, the son of Walter and Sarah Whiting of Malvern Common.  In the 1911 Census he was shown living at his parent’s home with the trade of carpenter. He died at the Royal St George’s Golf Club, Sandwich, Kent on 6th October 1922.  He was buried in Great Malvern Cemetery.

In his will he left the not insubstantial sum of £1578 to his brother Frederick, who was a golf professional.

George’s military service has yet to be traced.  There are many men of this name who served during the Great War.  It can only be assumed that he died as a result of illness or injury received on war service.  He is not commemorated at St Andrews, Malvern Common – however this roll of honour may have been collated before George died.
