In May 1918 the Malvern News reported: “Bandsman George A Knock, Gloucestershire Regiment (the eldest son of Mr G Knock, Belstead formerly a gardener at Tannachie West Malvern) has been killed in action. He was 24 and had been on active service for three years. Before joining the army he was the chef at the Café Royal, where he had served his apprenticeship. As a boy he was a member of the St James Choir, West Malvern.”
