On 13th October 1915 The Malvern News reported how the life of a former porter at Great Malvern Railway Station had been saved by a writing pad he had been sent during fighting on the Gallipoli Peninsula. Unfortunately Lance Sergeant Frederick Nash was not as lucky as his colleage Ernest Woolley. He was reported wounded in August and his parents subsequently received no letters from him. They were naturally very anxious. The following week it was officially reported wounded and missing.

His body was never found, and he is commorated on the Helles Memorial.
