Edward Waugh served throughout the entire war with the 11th Hussars, landing in France on the 15th August 1914, until he was mortally wounded just over a month before the cessation of hostilities. His Captain wrote to his father in Cowleigh School how good a soldier he was and that his death was deeply felt by his comrades. He was an old boy of Cowleigh School, and he was specially remembered as being capital shot on the school rifle range. His brother went through the war with the Notts and Derbys.
