Next of Kin: Son of Frank and Edith Jessie Roper of The Laurels, Worcester Road (later 2 Spring Villas, Worcester Road, Malvern Link)

Cyril Roper, who was a corporal in the Malvern Company of the Church Lad’s Brigade for 4 and a half years before enlisting, was shot through the chest whilst signalling. He died of wounds shortly afterwards a few miles behind the Ypres [1] front line at Poperinghe.

A Chaplain has wrote to his parents:-

“I know that the loss of such a dear brave lad must men to you; still, you must be proud of having such a son who gave his life for his country.  I trust he has found in God’s paradise, a peace more perfect than earth can give.  May God Himself be your strength and comfort in your great sorrow.”
