In January 1917, Mrs Dutfield of North Malvern was officially notified that her husband, Pte J Dutfield, had been killed in France. It was in front of the Butte de Warlencourt [1] that he was killed by a shell burst, possibly from British artillery, on the night of the 14th December 1916.
