William Thomas Turner was born in Welland on 22nd November 1895, the son of William and Eliza Turner of Lake Cottages, Welland. He started Welland school on 29th January 1900 and when he left he went to work for Elijah Smith at Little Brookend Farm, Welland . Nora Roberts (nee Smith), now deceased remembered him as a cheerful young lad, who used to push her on her swing when she was a little girl. He was in “B” Battery, 84 th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery [1], when he was killed in action on 22nd October 1918.
