The parish of Poolbrook in 1914 consisted of brick cottages on either side of Poolbrook Road, and larger properties around Peachfield Common. St Andrew's Church was built in 1882 by Sir Arthur Blomfield, the architect of many Great War cemeteries, in the Early English style. It was built as a memorial to Edward Chance of the Stourbridge glass manufacturing family.
