Cowleigh Mixed School

Cowleigh Mixed School was built in 1887, reflecting the growth in the area and was supported by the Church. In the early years of the 20th Century many pupils and ex-pupils were members of the Cowleigh Miniature Rifle Club. In 1916 a new rifle range was opened in the school's cellar. At the time of the First World War the school's headmaster was 'Johnnie' Stone who was by all accounts a kind and fair teacher.

It was a happy little school and in 1987 the staff and pupils celebrated the 100th Anniversary by dressing up in Victorian costume and spending the day like their Victorian predecessors. To the great sadness of the pupils, parents and staff the school was burnt down in an arson attack in September 1989. Today the Northleigh school stands on the site - an amalgamation of North Malvern Primary School and Cowleigh Primary.
