Ernest Preece, the son of Mr John Preece of High St, Upton-on-Severn, was educated at Hanley Castle Grammar School. Before the war he was employed at Messrs Cox and Painter at Warwick House. He was severely wounded had to have his right arm amputated, and his left leg was broken in two places. Mrs John Preece on hearing that her son's condition was serious at once set off for France, but received intimation before leaving England that he had died. He was 23 last March and has two brothers serving in the army.
On the Malvern Link war memorial at St Matthias, he is known as Felix, the Worcester Catheral Roll for Worcestershire confirms a Felix Preece as a member of the Royal Fusiliers from Malvern Link.
