Able Seaman Harold Reuben Joyner, who was born in West Malvern, was one of the victims of the Submarine E-13, which grounded on the Danish island of Saltholm on the 19th August 1915. He was the son of Charles Joyner of Tarrington, Herefs who formerly ran a hairdressing business at Link Top. The deceased joined the service as a boy sailor and served for 14 years.

His brother Cecil Joyner served in the Worcestershire Yeomanry on Gallipoli
and in Egypt; he survived the war.
