In March 1915, the Malvern News reported: "Pte Arthur Jones of the 1st Glosters whose home was Ebrington Terrace, West Malvern has been killed in action. Mrs Jones has received a message of sympathy from the King and Queen. The Vicar of West Malvern, Rev A F Robson writes in the Parish Magazine that Arthur Jones is the first West Malvern man to give his life for England in this great war. His death is part of this nations great sacrifice he died that we might live and Europe may be free. We commend him and those that mourn him to the Eternal Love. Pte Jones joined the army in April 1914."
His younger brother, George Jones was killed in action in 1916.
